Treasure - Dog of the Week

Meet Treasure!

Treasure laying while on a leash with tongue out!

Before coming to the Humane Society of St. Thomas, Treasure spent a long period of his life mostly alone, chained near a front porch. We know that when he arrived at HSSTT, despite everything life had already handed him, Treasure still loved people.

Treasure was recently adopted, but unfortunately he was returned after it was discovered that he has severe heartworm disease. And now we desperately need to change the next chapter of his story.

Heartworm is treatable. But treatment requires rest, limited activity and as little stress as possible. A busy shelter environment makes that incredibly difficult for a dog whose heart and lungs already need extra care. A generous donor has stepped forward and will pay for Treasure’s heartworm treatment.

Close up of Treasure

What Treasure needs from us now is a safe, quiet place to land.

Our greatest hope is to find the person who looks at Treasure and says, “You’re mine. You’re home.”

But if adoption isn’t possible, we desperately need a foster home where he can rest, feel safe and either begin his heartworm treatment or stay comfortably until we can work toward getting him to a stateside rescue around late November or early December.

What we know about Treasure

  • He is a 5 year old neutered male, approximately 53 lbs.
  • He loves treat days
  • He loves kids.
  • He does well around cats.
  • He is an easygoing, affectionate boy who simply wants to belong to someone.

Treasure has been through enough. He has spent too much of his life waiting for people to choose him, keep him and show him what home is supposed to feel like.

It is time for this boy to finally live up to his name. Because Treasure truly is one!
