Some dogs come into the shelter looking for a home. Others come in looking for something they may have been searching for their entire lives.
Meet Valley Girl.
Valley Girl is a small-to-medium-sized sweetheart who arrived at the Humane Society of St. Thomas in heartbreaking condition. Her body tells a story that we may never fully know. It’s obvious she’s had several litters of puppies. She has no teeth, and she struggles with severe anxiety. We don’t know what her life looked like before she came to us, but it’s hard not to wonder how much love and comfort this sweet girl has missed.

And yet, despite everything, all Valley Girl just wants is to be loved
She loves when you talk to her. She loves sitting in your lap. She loves being held close. She just wants someone to be near.
One of our staff members, Pat, has taken Valley Girl under her wing, patiently working with her to help ease some of her anxiety. And recently, Pat did something extra special.
She took Valley Girl home for the weekend.

Pat shared that Valley Girl is mostly potty trained, although she does need frequent potty breaks. She’s also very food and treat motivated, which can be helpful when building routines and confidence.
But perhaps the sweetest thing Pat shared was this:
Valley Girl just wants a warm soul to give her love and a spot to rest her head…literally.
Here's what we know about Valley Girl
- She is approximately 5 years old
- She is small - to - medium sized
- She is heartworm negative
- She's good with other dogs, and no known problems with cats
- She doesn't have any teeth, so she requires a soft food diet
- Loves treats, sunbathing, and curling up next to her person
Valley Girl doesn’t need a big yard, fancy toys, or grand adventures. She needs a person.

Someone who will talk to her. Someone who will hold her. Someone who understands that her anxiety isn’t a flaw, but something she needs help working through. Someone who will give her the time to finally feel safe.
Please share Valley Girl's story. Her person may be just one share away!
