We’ll give you some advice depending on where to go on the day of your adventure, depending on the dog you choose and the weather outside. Suggestions often include:
Hull Bay Beach – volunteer review: “Wonderful spot with many dog-friendly people, good chance your doggie will be noticed.”
Santa Maria Beach – volunteer review: “This is a great option because it is a short hike down to the beach probably about 15-20 minutes, and the beach is generally pretty secluded with not many people there. The day I went with Chase was a weekday and no one was down there, on other occasions I have seen a few people down there with dogs also. On the hike down there is not much shade so may be better for earlier in the day or late afternoon as we get into the summer months. Parking is on the eastbound side of the road just past the pink gate, there is space for a few cars on the dirt.”
Abi Beach – Volunteer Review – Remote and requires a little effort to get to, but incredibly beautiful and well worth it. Only 4-wheel drive type vehicles can drive all the way down to the beach. Others, we recommend parking either at the top or bottom of the road that leads down, just before the last stretch where the road gets very bumpy especially on the weekends, and in general you will find many happy, friendly dogs and people at this beach.
Yacht Haven Grande – Fun spot for walking with your dog along the water.

Field Trip Photos

Did you take photos/video during your field trip? We would love to share them on social media! Please email us at or send by WhatsApp to 917-208-9655 and please consider sharing through your own social media! This goes a long way to help our animals find their forever homes.

If you fall in love with your field trip dog, we can assist with getting the dog off-island. Just ask! Can’t adopt? That’s ok. We understand. If you would like to help them find their forever homes, there’s still a lot you can do!

  • Post photos/video of the dog on your social media to help spread the word that they are available! Be sure to tag us @humanesocietystthomas and @petswithwingsstt and direct people to
  • Donate a Harness Lead or merchandise from our Amazon Wishlist.
  • Become a member of Humane Society of St. Thomas. Click here to join today, and make your voice heard! Full list of membership benefits are also listed in the link. Our preferred membership category is recurring.
  • If you would like to fly with your dog to the mainland, we can reach out to rescues in your area. If we are able to place the dog at a shelter near you, we will arrange for a representative to meet you at the airport. There are vastly more opportunities for the dog to be adopted on the mainland than on our tiny island. Plus, we only partner with other no-kill shelters. Ask the front desk how you can help or email
  • Purchase a travel crate or other supplies from our Amazon Wishlist here.
  • Consider a recurring monthly donation to our general fund. As little as $5 per month that we can count on goes a long way to keep the shelter and its programs running.
